The marq of intelligent homebuying decisions
Home surveys provide detailed information about a property's condition, helping you make informed decisions to move forward with confidence.
Whether you're buying your first home or moving up the property ladder, we'll help you choose the survey that's right for the property you're considering.
Why get a survey?
A mortgage valuation is for your lender. A home survey is for you.
A mortgage valuation helps a lender assess whether a property provides suitable security for a loan. It is not designed to give you a detailed understanding of the property’s condition. A home survey provides an independent assessment of visible and accessible parts of the property, highlighting defects, maintenance concerns and areas that may need further investigation.
- Structural movement or cracking
- Damp, timber decay or mould
- Roof defects and deterioration
- Signs of poor maintenance
- Alterations that may need further investigation
If the survey identifies concerns, you can consider the findings before you exchange contracts, seek specialist advice or quotes, and discuss the next steps with your conveyancer and the seller.
Which survey is right for you?
Home Survey Level 2 (RICS)
A clear, standard-format condition report for conventional homes that appear to be in reasonable condition. The report uses RICS condition ratings to show where repairs or further investigation may be needed.
Building Survey
Our most detailed survey option, suited to older, larger, altered, unusual or visibly run-down properties, or where you are planning major works. The report format and surveyor’s professional qualification may vary by provider.

Why do I need a survey?
A mortgage valuation is designed for your lender, not for you. It won't provide the detailed insight needed to understand a property's condition, potential defects or future maintenance requirements.
A home survey gives you an independent assessment of the property, helping you uncover issues before they become your responsibility and giving you greater confidence in your purchase.
